What Is Contemplation in Everyday Life?

Contemplation in Everyday Life is a two-year interfaith / interspiritual formation experience for adult spiritual seekers that immerses you in a dynamic learning community to notice and contemplate the unfolding of God / Spirit / the Holy / the Divine (or however you define the Sacred) in your life.

Through this process you will:

  • Engage in a relational learning community with your peers and team members that fosters mutual respect, non-judgment, safety, and compassion.
  • Journey through your sacred history and into your present life experiences.
  • Notice the movement of God’s / Spirit’s / the Holy’s / the Divine’s (or however you define the Sacred’s) presence and action in all realms of your life.
  • Develop/deepen a contemplative stance.
  • Nurture your own development and meet monthly with a mentor on staff.
  • Experience contemplative listening in one-on-one relationships and groups.
  • Be invited to experience a variety of spiritual practices from different faiths/traditions.
  • Participate in ongoing reflections as you discern your possible call as a spiritual director.

As a participant, we ask that you be:

  • Open to exploring your personal spiritual life.
  • Able to reflectively look at your relationship with God / Spirit / the Holy / the Divine (or however you define the Sacred).
  • Engaged in regular spiritual direction (at least once a month). NOTE: If you need to find a spiritual director, Sycamore can help connect you with one.
  • Open to receiving and listening to the experiences of others.
  • A lifelong learner.
  • Open to diversity.

How to apply

The following materials will be required as part of your application:

  • Application form with your personal information
  • Reference summary form listing your two references
  • Two letters of reference from your spiritual director; a peer or colleague; your spiritual, religious, or faith community leader; and/or a member of your prayer community.
  • A 6-8 page (double-spaced) written life history/spiritual autobiography

THE DEADLINE TO APPLY IS JULY 15, 2024.

After receipt of your application materials, a member of the teaching team will contact you to schedule an interview, which will take place in late July or August.
